This is My Precious Pet Story - What's Yours?

2/28/2023

I have had many pets in my lifetime and I have loved them all dearly.  But every once in a while, one comes along, and there is just something special about them that holds an extra special place in your heart.

Meet Ashley
She was a beauty  - the queen of the house - a sweet lover - and one of the brattiest cats I've ever met!  But, we had a special bond that I've never had with any other pet.  She came to us in 2000 when she was about 9 months old.  She wasn't fitting in at my daughter's home, so we agreed to test the waters, with the understanding that if it didn't work out with our dogs, that she would take her back and rehome her.  Our dogs had never been around a cat before, and the first few days, it was a rat race with the dogs chasing the cat.  Within a week, though, she established herself, and the chase reversed.  From that point on, she was queen bee!
By the time I began my jewelry making journey in 2006, we were deeply bonded, and she was by my side day and night.  She was also very curious, very playful, and into EVERYTHING.  We had a love/hate relationship when I was working, because everything was a toy to her, and no matter how many times I took her off my desk, it was as if she was on a trampoline, and would spring right back up.  After about 10 years, she finally learned "get in your chair" and would do just that (or maybe it was she was getting older and just didn't have as much fight left in her).
My memorial jewelry began with the Everlasting Prints collection, then shortly after, I added the Love Notes collection.  The next most logical collection was to focus on our Precious Pets.  Miss Ashley was one of my first models and we made this beautiful circle pendant.

I wanted to add a tiny paw print charm to my bracelet, but if you've ever tried to hold a cat's paw still to take an ink print or take a photo, you know, this is not an easy "feat".  In addition, she had lots of toe fur, so ink prints were more fur than toe pads. So, I came up with the clever idea to put her on the scanner bed and scan her feet.  And it worked perfectly!

We had an amazing 17 years together, but that dreadful day finally came when we loved her across the rainbow bridge.  It was a tough loss for our family, and to this day, I still tear up remembering her.  But I added three more pieces to my collection and I will cherish all of them forever.

Preparing for Your First Holiday Season After Losing a Love One

11/10/2022

They say that "holidays are the most wonderful time of the year", but if you have recently lost a loved one, it can be really difficult getting through your first holidays without them.  Grief doesn't end just because the calendar shows a specific date.  That’s why it may be helpful to prepare yourself for a holiday season that will be different.

My hope is that the following ideas help bring you some comfort as you begin preparing to face your first holiday season without your loved one.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF
First and foremost, you need to be kind to yourself during this difficult time.  Prioritize your mental health by slowing down and giving yourself the space to feel your emotions.  Know that your grief may appear unexpectedly as you are reminded of your loved one and that it is okay to pause any festivities for as long as you need to process what you’re feeling.

FIND COMFORT IN FAMILY TRADITIONS
Many of us find comfort by partaking in family traditions.  Performing the same rituals your loved one enjoyed, like decorating the tree or yard, baking their favorite Christmas cookies, or watching their favorite Christmas movie, can help you continue to feel close to their spirit.  You can also help their legacy live on by teaching these traditions to a new generation of family members.

START A NEW TRADITION
Along with the familiar traditions from years past, new ones can help you honor and stay connected to a Loved One who is no longer with you.  Consider starting a new tradition of visiting their grave before attending a holiday church service with your family or inviting a new friend to join in at a meal at your home in their place.

KEEP A PHYSICAL REMINDER OF THEIR PRESENCE
When we lose a Loved One, sometimes the only thing we want to do is hold them close again.  Memorial Keepsakes by A Timeless Impression can help create that tangible connection.  We offer items engraved with fingerprints, handwriting, pet keepsakes and more and the high quality deep engraving allows you to "feel" the details as you hold onto them.

ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR LOVED ONE

One way to help with the healing process is to acknowledge your loved one during your special holiday events.   Take a few moments to make a toast to your late Loved One or share your favorite holiday memories together with your guests.

GIVE A GIFT IN THEIR NAME
One way to help your loved one’s legacy live on and spread some goodwill during the holiday season is to do something positive in their honor. You can make a donation in their name to their favorite charity or even give other grieving family members the gift of a Fingerprint Keepsake engraved with the detailed lines and grooves of your Loved One’s actual fingerprint so that they can feel comforted by their memory.

ALLOW YOURSELF TO FEEL JOY
Even in your grief, you can still find joy. Instead of feeling guilty for enjoying yourself, know that your Loved One would want that for you.  Allow yourself to appreciate the special moments and memories you are creating during this wonderful time of year.

SEEK SUPPORT IF YOU NEED IT
There are people available for you to talk to and who will support you—even during the holidays.  Consider joining a grief support group in your area, meeting with a therapist, or simply grabbing a cup of coffee with an understanding family member or friend.  Always remember that you are not alone.

AND FINALLY, IT'S OKAY TO NOT CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS
Even though they are meant to symbolize comfort and joy, the holidays can be extremely hard after you have lost someone close to you.  It's ok to take a step back from the festivities this year if you need to.  You can choose to attend fewer gatherings, scale down your family celebration, or forgo all activities and focus on other projects or hobbies that help ease your heart and mind.

I understand that the holidays can be difficult, especially after a loved one has died. If you are grieving, please know that you have my most sincere sympathy and I hope that you can continue to feel comforted by your loved one’s presence during this season and moving forward.

New Designs Are Finally Released

4/18/2022

How is it that January is here and you have so many things planned, then all of the sudden it is almost May and you've barely begun those plans?  Happens to me every year!  Thankfully, they always get done, just not as quickly as I would like.

Releasing new designs is a bit of a process and one that I enjoy immensely.  Because everything I make is custom made to order, I don't just have blank pieces to mock up for these new designs.  In order to have them to test, weigh and photograph for listing for sale, I have to make them from beginning to end.  I used to make gifts for my family and friends, but they now all have so many fingerprint and handwriting items, I've run out of recipients.  So, I turned to my fabulous client base.  I announce the new design phase, then call for volunteers.  They send me their fingerprints, handwriting, or whatever I'm asking for, and I use those to make the new designs.  They don't necessarily get to choose the item, but they do get a free keepsake.  You may be wondering how you can be chosen for that free item?  It's simple...follow me on Facebook and join my email list, then you'll see the announcements and can sign up.  Slots fill up fast and they are all first come-first serve, so you'll want to check in regularly.  I don't have a specific time frame, either. I just announce when I'm feeling like making new designs.

Now, to unveil the new designs!

 "Not So Basic Shapes" Collection

The sweet angels are hand cut using no templates, so are completely unique and one of a kind.  They are available in 2 sizes.  I designed the arrowheads and shield with men in mind, but they are appropriate for everyone.  One of my best friends recently lost her father, and they have many memories of hiking and searching for arrowheads in the Colorado mountains.  The final shape is similar to the teardrop, with just a slight twist at the top to make it a paisley shape.  (Click on the photos for links to order)

The Botanical Collection

I designed these pendants with the nature lovers in mind.  I also spent 44 years in Colorado where my favorite tree was the Aspen Tree.  (Click on the photos for links to order)

"Island Inspiration" Collection

After visiting the Caribbean island of Antigua many years ago, I fell in love with island life and have ever since dreamed of becoming an "Island Girl".  These pendants are inspired by the beautiful beaches and aquatic life in our oceans.  (Click on the photos for links to order)
Most of these items can be made using handwriting instead of fingerprints and it's as easy as dropping me a quick email to request your custom order.

THANK YOU to my amazing clients who participated and provided their fingerprints!  If you have design ideas in mind, please comment below or email me.  I love designing new collections!

New Designs
2022 will kick off with a number of new designs.  Every year when I design new items, I call for volunteers to provide fingerprints, handwriting, paw prints, etc.  When I announce the call for volunteers, the items made from these things are gifted to the volunteer.  These items can range from tiny charms to complex designs and will be retailed from $50 to $500.  So, if you're interested in getting some free personalized jewelry, follow my facebook page or subscribe to my email list so you will be the first to know and participate.  They are produced in limited quantities and I work with the order they are received.  Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

More Events
As many of you know, in 2020 I moved from Colorado to Georgia, then again from a rental house to a purchased home.  This move was one of the biggest life changing events I have ever experienced and it took a lot more time and energy away from my business than I ever anticipated.  Some of this lingered into 2021 and I was left with little time and energy to host sales events, promotions, etc.   Now that I am fully settled in my home and my studio, you can expect to see some seasonal sales and promotional events take place.  These will be announced via facebook and email, so if you're not already following me on social media or subscribed to my email list, now's the time to do so.

As we navigate yet another year of living in a pandemic, I wish all of you peace, safety and good health.  I look forward to working with you in 2022!

My Dream Studio

I said you would probably never see my studio clean again.  Well, it has happened again, for the 2nd time in less than a year.  And for very good reason.  I have finally moved into my dream studio!  You may recall, in February, we moved from CO to GA and I set up shop in a bedroom studio until we could locate the home we wanted to purchase.  We were very blessed and quickly found just what we were looking for.  And that included a large studio space that has everything I could possibly need.  So, welcome to A Timeless Impression's new studio where I will be making your precious keepsakes for many years to come.

A Clean Studio? Say Whaaaat?!

3/20/2020

Look closely, because it is unlikely you will ever see this studio this clean again.  In general, my house is kept very clean and organized, but my studio is a different story.  It gets "tidied up" on occasion, but that's typically the extent of it.  Why is it so clean then?  When you pack up and move across the country, you get a shot at really cleaning everything.

In case you weren't aware, we moved from Brighton, CO to Roswell, GA in February.  As always, I learned that I had waaaay more stuff than I thought, and waaaaay more stuff than I need.  It was a long process to get here, but we are here, and for the most part, settled.  So, here's an official welcome to my new studio!  It's temporary, until we find the right home and studio space, but it is roomy enough to make your special pieces.

Mother's Day is just around the corner and this year's order deadline are as follows:

~ Most silver items (excluding cremation ashes) - Order placed by 4/13/20 and images received by 4/15/20
~ Cremation Ashes items - Order placed by 4/1/20 and ashes received by 4/11/20
~ Bronze and Copper items - Order placed by 3/24/20 and images received by 3/26/20
~ Rustic Metal (or White Satin) - Order placed by 4/6/20 and images received by 4/8/20
Please see individual listing ship times for the most accurate production time.

The Ugly Truth About Tarnish

11/4/2018

Picture

There's nothing worse the going to your jewelry box to pick out your favorite piece of silver jewelry and finding this...the dreaded TARNISH!

You are not alone, it happens to everyone...  Yep, tarnish is an equal opportunity offender!

The Truth About Tarnish:
Tarnish effects precious metals such as sterling silver and gold.  In time, all sterling silver and real gold will tarnish, regardless of where you bought it from or how much you spent on it. Tarnish is inevitable, tarnish is natural, and tarnish doesn't mean there is anything wrong with your jewelry.  It is just a natural process. We have to get our hair cut or it will start to look straggly.  Same goes for your jewelry – you need to care for it and clean it so that is stays looking at its best!

Tarnish causes a dark and dull discoloration of your jewelry. It is a natural chemical reaction that occurs when some metals are exposed to the air.  Another factor is hydrogen sulfide – and this can be found in the paper and boxes that you may use to store your jewelry in to keep it safe. Also, as summer is quickly approaching, the humidity will cause your silver to tarnish even faster! Anti-tarnish bags and polishing cloths can help minimalize the tarnish to your sterling silver jewelry. But, when the inevitable occurs and you notice your jewelry has darkened or become dull, there is GOOD NEWS! Tarnish is not permanent…AND it is easily removed!

Here’s a list of things that Silver has a bad reaction with:  Wool, Rubber Bands, Latex Gloves, Oils from your Hands and Fingers, Ammonia, Chlorinated Water, Carpet Padding, Air Pollution, Perfumes, Hair Sprays, and believe it or not, some foods can even make Silver tarnish. Foods like: Onions, Mayonnaise, Salad Dressing, Eggs and Salty Foods. (Put down those Chips!)
In fact, just the humidity alone can cause Silver to corrode!

Tips To Help Your Jewelry Stay Looking Brighter Longer:
 - Avoid wearing your jewelry in the shower, at the beach, in a swimming pool or in the hot tub
- Always be sure to store your jewelry in a dry place.  I recommend storing it in a sealed plastic bag with an anti-tarnish strip or chalk.  You can also use the little silica gel packs that you find in vitamin bottles.  Keeping your jewelry in Tupperware or Rubbermaid bins also work great, especially those that seal air tight.  This will not keep your jewelry from tarnishing, but it will delay the process.
- Avoid contact with hairspray, perfume, body lotions and put your jewelry on AFTER you have applied these things.
- After taking your jewelry off, clean it with warm water, then dry it with a soft cloth or a polishing cloth before putting it away.  This will help to remove any residues that may be on your jewelry.

What Do I Do When It Does Tarnish?

There are numerous ways to remove the tarnish from your jewelry.
  • When you order from A Timeless Impression, you are provided with a Pro Polish Pad.  These pads work beautifully to remove the tarnish.  If your charm is flat with little texture, place your pad on flat surface, then move it in circular motions.  You can purchase additional Pro Polish Pads here (shown in the first video) and you can purchase the blue Polishing Cloths here (shown in the 2nd photo.)  I like to use the Pro Polish Pad first, then follow up with the Polishing Cloth.
Picture
  • If you no longer have your cleaning pads and do not want to order any, another safe and effective way to clean your silver jewelry is to place a piece of aluminum foil in the bottom of a glass pan.  Heat some water to almost boiling.  Lay your jewelry on top of the aluminum foil.  Sprinkle equal amounts of baking soda and salt on top of your jewelry to cover it.  Pour the water into the pan until your jewelry is completely submerged.  Let sit for 5 - 15 minutes, depending on how tarnished the silver is.  Once the water has cooled enough not to burn you, remove your jewelry and rinse in cool tap water.  If your pieces still appear tarnished, repeat the process with a new piece of aluminum foil.  Dry and polish with a soft cloth.
  • There are many commercial silver cleaning products on the market.  While these products will remove the tarnish, they may also remove any blackening that was applied.  If this does happen, you can return your piece to me to reapply the blacking.  I do not charge for this service.  All I ask is that you cover your return shipping costs.
  • Lastly, you may send the items you have purchased from me and I will clean them free of charge.  Again, all I ask is that you cover your return shipping fees.  (I do not accept items not made by A Timeless Impression due to liability reasons.  Thank you for understanding.)

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or need help cleaning your beautiful keepsake.

And don't forget to SUBSCRIBE TO OUR MAILING LIST so we can periodically send you these helpful tips.
